Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT) is home to over 500 artists, designers, manufacturers and industrial workers.  The expansive, yet affordable space is additionally home to Workforce1-Brooklyn, the main hub for manufacturing jobs in Sunset Park and adjacent Brooklyn Neighborhoods.

Situated in a prime location, easily accessible by several subway lines and across the river from Staten Island, BAT has become a highly covetted work/live space for Brooklynites seeking affordable studio space.

As creative industry’s flock to Brooklyn’s tech triangle for more space and more affordable rents, the cumulative impact of creative tech in this area is estimated to generate 50,000 new jobs over the next several years.  In fact, nearly all new development slatted for the next 5 years incorporates space for recording, digital arts, broadcasting, and more.

With zero to no vacancies, BAT’s wish to expand and further invigorate the local economy is stifled by watershed zoning requirements and a sheer lack of space to expand into.  However, with 500 feet of atrium split by overgrown train tracks and the original subway train cars, the preexisting subway conditions serve as an ideal location to expand.

This project re-imagines these conditions, creating movable recording/mixing studios, a youth digital arts program- The Listen Lab, as well as dining and mixed use lounges.

With demand with these spaces on the rise, Sound Tracks Studios is a solution for the growing creative /recording arts industries.
